To curb the problems associated with the various cheats, I am trying to put down, what all can we do to best tackle the situation.
When you need to fill up a definite quantity of petrol.
1) Ask if we can get precise quantity of petrol. We may intend to get the quantity precisely worth of some money, or the precise quantity directly. Ask accordingly about the quantity or the cost, if the pump has auto cut off system. DO NOT DISCLOSE THE QUANTITY OR COST YET.
2) Ask the reading to be set to zero.
3) Only after the reading is set to zero. Tell the amount of fuel that needs to be filled in. DO NOT OPEN THE PETROL TANK YET.
4) Wait for whether any salesman has to say about it. Tell them that no talk will be entertained when we start filling the fuel.
5) If the salesman initiates any conversation, do it and make sure it has closed without any open points.
6) Ensure the zero on the reading and open the fuel tank for the attendant.
7) Make sure the attendant has placed the pipe inside the tank. At this point focus on the reading.
8) Make sure the scale goes from zero and record the point when the salesman stops filling in. Even if it is less than what you asked for, get the tank closed immediately. Pay only for the READING SHOWN on the meter. Do not do any addition or math. WHATEVER YOU SEE ON THE READING IS THE TOTAL AMOUNT, IF YOU HAVE STARTED FROM ZERO.
Only one filling is to be done at one time.
e.g. if you wanted fuel worth Rs. 100, then the attendant fills first till Rs. 30, then stops, again starts and fills it till Rs. 70, then you need to pay only Rs 70, because that is the fuel that has entered in your fuel tank.
To avoid any confusion is such case, JUST STOP AT THE POINT WHEN the attendant has stopped first (i.e. when it was Rs. 30). DO NOT ENTERTAIN FURTHER FILLING NO MATTER WHAT.
Make the payment, get the right amount of change.
8) Get the bill for the fuel filled in.
9) If you feel suspicious about the quantity, get the fuel measured. Yes, the petrol pump must keep the measuring vessels, that are conforming to and certified by the Measures and Weights authorities.
Please provide more information wherever you have, and help me get more details on the existing information as well.
